Learn to make jewellery in Tom and Vanessas jewellery workshop in Birmingham's historic Jewellery Quarter.
Classes run throughout the year and are limited to a class size of 2 learners at one time. There are classes available for 1-1 tuition or you can bring a friend along and learn together. We also run 1 day weekend wedding ring workshops. All classes include complementary teas, coffees and biscuits!

About the Courses:
Our classes are suitable for complete beginners with no previous jewellery making experience and for those who have some experience and would like to develop their skills within set projects.
We offer short courses for beginners and beginner and intermediate 6 week courses and a weekend wedding ring workshop:
Short courses
Aimed at beginners. With full step-by-step guidance you will experience making a specific piece of jewellery such as a ring, a bangle or a pendant with the materials provided.
6 week courses
We offer beginner and intermediate classes.
Beginners will be set a specific project and with guidance you will make a piece of jewellery to proudly keep and wear.
For intermediates there will be a set project with creative freedom. The project will introduce you to set skills through demonstrations and practice that you can incorporate into your design. Some practice material is supplied and additional material is available for you to purchase if you wish. The aim of these courses is to learn and develop skills and create a beautiful piece to be proud of and to wear.
Wedding Workshop ***NEW PRICE***
Create your own unique and beautiful wedding rings from silver or gold with full support of both Vanessa and Tom. Spend a day in the workshop hand crafting your own special wedding bands learning to shape, solder, texture and finish.

About the Tutors:
Tom Asquith
Tom is a graduate of Wolverhampton University where he studied 3D applied Art (BA) and continued his training in Jewellery and silversmithing at Bishopsland. He developed his design and business skills at Design Space Birmingham and has won many awards for his craft. He was an Artist in Residence and technician at the School of Jewellery Birmingham where he supported student learning.
Vanessa Miller

Alongside running her own jewellery business, Vanessa has successfully planned and delivered regular jewellery making classes from beginner through to advanced learners at the Midlands Arts Centre for adults and young people for the last 2 years until the pandemic intervened. Prior to this Vanessa planned and delivered jewellery making classes for the Crafts Council project 'Make Your Future' for 3 years in Secondary Schools across Birmingham and has taught specialist jewellery classes at the School of Jewellery as a Visiting Tutor. Vanessa is a graduate of the School of Jewellery where she studied Jewellery and Silversmithing (HND) full time and returned as an Artist in Residence for 2 consecutive years. Following this Vanessa won an award and was named Jeweller in Residence after entering a design competition set by the Museum of the Jewellery Quarter Birmingham, her exclusive Snake Collection inspired by the museums archives is exclusively available from the Museum shop.
Workshop Location and Access and Health and Safety.
The Workshop is located on Regents Place in the Jewellery Quarter Birmingham UK. We are located on the first floor via a steep set of stairs with a handrail. We regret there is no lift access. Toilets are located on the ground floor via an additional set of stairs.
Parking is available in the area, free after 6pm, pay and display thoughout the day, there are some short stay (4 hour) free bays also available if you are lucky to find one. Public transport links are excellent. Buses stop very close by, and we are a short walking distance away from the Jewellery Quarter tram stop. The workshop is also a 20 minute straight walk from the city centre.
Classes are for adults over the age of 18 only.
The classes will require some standing for certain activities and physical work.
COVID-19 SAFE- Please provide your own face mask. Currently we request face masks are worn throughout your class. Please wash hands at the start and end of your class and alcohol based hand sanitiser is available in addition to hand washing.
It is recommended you bring an apron to wear as workshops can be a dirty environment.
If you wear glasses please remember to bring them with you.
Long hair must be tied back securely.
Low heeled, firm shoes must be worn such as trainers - flip flops, sandals, open shoes and soft cloth shoes cannot be worn in the workshop and will mean your class cannot go ahead.
Eye protection will be provided and ear protection where necessary will be provided please bring them with you to every class.
You may wish to bring a pen and notebook to the sessions for note taking.
CANCELLATION POLICY

Classes are for adults over the age of 18 only.
Changes to course dates:
If we need to amend or postpone your class due to our reasons such as a tutor illness or inaccessible workshop etc, we will reschedule your class when the workshop is available to suit all participants where 2 people have booked on. We will give you as much notice as we can (please ensure we have your up-to-date mobile phone/email details at booking/throughout your course) We regret we cannot be responsible for the cost of pre-booked travel and accommodation arrangements.
Refunds & Transfers:
Please ensure you can attend all of the dates of the course before you book a place. In general classes run for 1 day, Special Event Workshops run for 1 full day or 2 full days over a weekend, Courses run for 6 weeks from the start date.
If you do wish to cancel your course you may do so 14 days prior to the start date for a full refund of the course fee. If less than 14 days notice is given then 50% of the course fee will be refunded. If 24 hours or less notice is given then I am unable to offer a refund at all.
Resheduling classes is only possiible if the workshop is available for use. If 2 people are booked onto a course then the rescheduling can only occur if both parties agree with the date(s) offered by the booking manager. Rebooking is at the discretion of the booking manager and if permitted may only happen once during a course.
COVID-19 (Coronavirus):
Due to the above named pandemic, should a cancellation be necessary due to government enforced lockdown, shielding or should you require to self-isolate please ensure you get in touch with your tutor via telephone, text, email ASAP so we can make arrangements to rebook. As a small independent business we would prefer to avoid refunding and would prefer to rebook or offer catch-up sessions, although refunds will be offered in these unprecedented times.
We try our very best to offer rescheduled dates that suit you / both participants. Where this isn't possible we offer a partial refund, pro rata for the remaining dates minus the materials cost (variable as course dependant) and minus a £20 admin fee.
